My name is Paul J. Peyton, and I have been a print newspaper editor and journalist for over 30 years. Most recently I was employed as assignment editor with The Westfield Leader and The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Times in Union County, NJ. In my role, I led a team of over a dozen reporters and photographers. I also headed up our political coverage including two Congressional Districts, two legislative districts as well Union County government and six municipalities. My leadership also included the Union County Freeholders beat, authoring weekly detailed, hard-hitting editorials, and layout of six newspaper pages each week, which included the front pages of both papers.
Previously, I served as associate editor of two trade newspapers covering the supermarket and foodservice industries where I write profiles on restaurants in the New York Metropolitan area including Mickey Mantle’s Central Park South and Serendipity 3, both in New York City. In addition, I covered both large and small grocery store openings and issues ranging from loss prevention to cross merchandising.
My career also included working in a legislative office, where I served as communications director for three New Jersey state legislators. My role included planning a trip for high school juniors and seniors to the United States Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C., and a forum aimed at restoring funding in the state budget for the arts after deep cuts were proposed by the governor.
